The climate on Mallorca

Type of climate: Mallorca has Mediterranean semi-arid climate with medium and moderate temperatures.

Rains: The rains are seasonal and it can change depending of the area where you stay. For example, in the south of the island the rains are of 350mm and in the north are of 1.500mm. Although we can find in all over the island an average of 450mm-650mm.

The 40% of the rains are in autumn, the 25% are in spring and winter and the last 10% are in summer.

Cathedral of Mallorca

The Cathedral is the principal sacred building in Palma. It’s of gothic style. It was built between centuries XIII and XVI. This cathedral is known for its large rose window (the biggest in the world).

The interior of the cathedral has 3 rectangular naves.

The cathedral has a privileged place, it is located over the old Stonewalls of Palma moreover it’s located in the historic center of Palma.

Valldemossa

Valldemossa is a town of Mallorca Island, It’s located to 17km of Palma. This town is situated in the Sierra de Tramuntana and it has a little more than 2.000 citizens.

The town highlight thanks its narrow and cobblestone streets, where the typical houses can be seen when a walk is given in the town.

Its principal attraction is “La Cartuja”, place where lived the music Chopin and the writer George Sand.

Sóller

Sóller is a town of Mallorca, which is located in Sierra de Tramuntana and has more than 13.000 citizens. Sóller is one of the principal places that you are obligated to visit if you visit Mallorca or live on it.

Sóller is the point of departure of different tours in Sierra de Tramuntana. In Sóller there is the famous tramway in which you can go to Port de Sóller from Sóller. Also there is a railway with old wagons that connects Sóller to Palma.

Playa Es Trenc

Famous beach in the south of Mallorca (In Campos) that is considered “protected natural area”. Behind of the beach is located “las Salinas” for the harvest of salt (the famous “Flor de Sal” in Mallorca).

It’s a large beach because has 4 km of coast with crystal water.

Es Trenc is one of the best untouched beach of Mallorca.

Sa Calobra

Small beach of sand and rocks. It’s located in the north of the island, in Sierra de Tramuntana, in the municipaly of Escorca. Near of Sa Calobra is located “Torrent de Pareis” (place where it’s inspiration of many artists). To arrive to this beach you have to up the Sierra de Tramuntana for one spectacular road of 14km with a lot of curves. The beach is located in one slop of 900m.

Castillo de Bellver

The “Castillo de Bellver” is a fortification of gothic style. The king Jaime II ordered to build it in the XIV century. The castle has plan circular with a main tower and 3 more tower smaller.

Today the castle is the museum of history of Palma de Mallorca.
